Battlefield 3 - Feature pic

Battlefield 3 has a lot going for it, and on consoles, compares only really to the other games in its long series – my own experience is with Battlefield 1943 (still cracking value for money on Xbox Live Arcade) and Bad Company 2 plus its brilliant Vietnam DLC. I haven’t personally played the epic 64 man battles of the PC titles, and I’m aware that I’m missing out on much of what this series is all about. But, as far as consoles go, this is the best large scale, vehicle heavy, all out warfare available, and stands up against the other heavyweights of the multiplayer FPS scene proudly.

Battlefield 3 beta

It’s been a whole week since the Battlefield 3 beta ended, and it’s proven to be a tricky one to write up. You see, the problem with previewing a beta is that it’s difficult to separate the bugs and unfinished parts from any flawed, but deliberate design decisions. This isn’t helped by the fact that I want to like BF3, I really, really do. I want to say that every problem I have with it is just unfinished and will be so polished by the final product that I’ll be able to see my smiling glee-filled face in it. So here’s the plan: I’ll observe the niggly bits, and we’ll all just pretend that it’ll all be alright in the end. What could go wrong?

Battlefield 3 - Destruction

EA have released a nice little trailer showing off Battlefield 3′s destructible buildings feature, made possible with the Frostbite 2 engine. One of the stand-out features of Bad Company 2 was how buildings could explode around you. One moment you’d be hiding behind a well then before you know it that same wall would just be fading smoke and dirt.

Here’s hoping the destructible scenery allows players to tactically create new routes around choke-points. Especially useful on the underground part of the Operation Metro map. Continue reading
